The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Delhi Government’s Geospatial Authority to provide a detailed pollution map of the Capital since 2010 and directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to furnish data with regard to air quality being monitored by it at six different locations in the city.
A Division Bench expressed concern over the poor ambient air quality in Delhi while hearing a case launched by it suo motu as a public interest litigation. The Court said air pollution in certain areas, such as Anand Vihar, was at hazardous levels, while directing the DPCC to give information on standards of air quality as prescribed by statute and notifications.
The Bench, comprising Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, said it would go through the data on the levels of air pollution recorded during various times of the day over a period of one week and see the results.
The Bench took up the issue after it came across the news reports that Delhi was one of the most polluted cities in the world. The Court also took note of reports that over 50 per cent of children in the Capital were suffering from respiratory problems caused by poor ambient air quality.
