HC asks Centre about steps to regulate radio cabs

December 11, 2014 08:06 am | Updated 08:06 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Union Government to apprise it of the steps being taken to regulate radio cabs on the roads of the Capital.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw said it would keep a public interest litigation on the issue pending until it was informed about how the Centre proposed to deal with the flouting of norms and guidelines by radio taxi companies.

The PIL petition, filed by High Court lawyer Damini Chawla, has alleged that the terms and conditions laid down in the radio taxi scheme of 2006 for licensing of taxi services and character verification of drivers are not being followed.

The Court posted the matter for further hearing on February 4. Another case related to legal liability of Uber was mentioned before a different Division Bench and listed for hearing on Friday.
