Concerned over the recent spate of crimes against women in the State, the Haryana government has decided to centralise its women helpline number-1091 to provide round-the-clock immediate response to any women in distress.

At present, the helpline number 1091 is running at the district level. In the new system, the calls for help would be received at a single centre to initiate immediate process for its redressal. This was disclosed by Chief Secretary D.S. Dhesi and Additional Chief Secretary, Home, S.S. Prasad during a media interaction in Chandigarh on Monday.

Integrated support

Mr. Prasad said that complaints from all over the State would be attended on this centralised system that would provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence or in any kind of need.

There have been three recent cases of gang rapes in Kurukshetra, Panipat and Faridabad. The Chief Secretary said that culprits in all theses cases would be identified at the earliest and stern action as per law would be taken against them.

Constant monitoring

Director General of Police B.S. Sandhu is constantly monitoring the entire issue with the Superintendent of Police in the three districts, he added.
