The Haryana government on Thursday said it has decided to set up a new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and upgrade five existing ones at a cost of about Rs 28.74 crore during the current financial year in an attempt to clean the Yamuna.
The special administrative approval to this effect has been given by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, state Public Health Engineering Minister Ghanshyam Saraf said here.
STPs upgrade
He said that in view of orders passed by National Green Tribunal, the State government has decided to upgrade the STPs in those towns where effluent is directly or indirectly discharged into the river in order to bring down the Biochemical Oxygen Demand of treated sewage.
Mr Saraf said that a 4-MLD STP at Nissing and a 6-MLD one at Nilokheri would be renovated and a new plant of 4 MLD capacity, based on modern technology, would be built at Indri.
Besides, a 10-MLD STP near Indra Chakravarti village and another of 8 MLD capacity at Karnal would be upgraded, he added. - PTI
