The Millennium City’s first cyber police station was opened at DLF Phase-V here on Wednesday.
V. Umashankar, CEO of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), inaugurated the station, which is located on the first floor of the police building on Horizon Drive, DLF Phase-V. Sandeep Khirwar, Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, was also present.
The police station will have trained manpower and modern equipment to deal with crimes in the cyber world. A separate magistrate will also be appointed for the station. Cyber crime experts will also be roped in. It will act as a centralised monitoring station for all kinds of online and tech-related crimes.
‘Much-needed step’
Mr. Umashankar said: “The nature of crimes had become more complex with the evolution of technology. Hence the administration needed to be several leaps ahead to be able to tackle such crimes. Setting up of the first cyber station in Gurugram was a much-needed step.”
A customer desk has also been set up for the residents of DLF Phase-V to facilitate any issues pertaining to Sushant Lok and Sector 53 police stations. Spread over an acre, the police station also houses the office of Assistant Commissioner of Police (DLF) and ACP (Crime).
The police station will also have Foreigner Regional Registration Office in the near future. In 2017, 3,297 cyber crime complaints were received in Gurugram, including 1,916 for online banking frauds, credit and debit cards or cheating via mobile phones.
