Senior IPS officer K.K. Rao, who was named the new Gurugram Commissioner of Police on Tuesday, will take over the reins on Wednesday.
Other transfers
The 1996-batch IPS officer will replace 1995-batch IPS officer Sandeep Khirwar, who has been made the Inspector General of Police (Rohtak Range). The two officers were among the eight senior IPS officers transferred by the Haryana government on Tuesday.
Mr. Rao, presently posted as IGP (IRB) Bhondsi, has served as Superintendent of Police of 14 districts in Haryana. He has been a part of several encounters, and has handled major law and order situations, including the Jat reservation agitation and the aftermath following Ram Rahim’s conviction, as a special officer. “I will join tomorrow [Wednesday] and will spell out my priorities after I get to know the issues facing the city,” he said on Tuesday.
During his roughly two-year tenure as Commissioner, Mr. Khirwar emphasised on streamlining traffic management and carried out special drives to discipline autorickshaw drivers.
However, his tenure was marked by controversy over allegations that the police tortured a bus driver to get a confession in the murder case of a Class II student of a Bhondsi school. The CBI is likely to file a supplementary chargesheet on the role of the Gurugram police in the case in July. Mr. Khirwar will replace Navdeep Virk, who has been posted as IGP (Karnal Range).
Commissioner of Police (Panchkula) A. S. Chawla has been transferred as additional DGP (Telecommunications) with additional charge of Additional DGP (Community Policing). IGP (State Vigilance Bureau) Charu Bali will be the new Panchkula Police Commissioner.
IGP (South Range) C.S. Rao has been transferred as IGP (Indian Reserve Battalion) Bhondsi. PS officer Srikant Jadhav has been posted as the new IGP (South Range) with the additional charge of Haryana Gau Sewa Aayog.
IGP (Karnal Range) Subhash Yadav has been transferred as IGP (State Vigilance Bureau).
