Gurgaon: Buyers seek action against builder

April 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - GURGAON:

More than 200 people who had bought flats in Unitech’s ‘The Residences’ project attended a meeting of the grievance committee, which was chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, at the Mini-Secretariat here on Sunday. The buyers have sought action against the builder for delaying possession of flats.

The Residences Apartments Buyers’ Association (RABA) has been engaged in dialogue with Unitech since 2014, seeking delivery of the houses. With the builder repeatedly missing deadlines, the association had complained to the District Grievances Committee, which was heard on February 26.

“It was decided in the meeting that the developer shall seek all clearances, construct the flats and handover possession to buyers as soon as possible. Also, a First Information Report was to be lodged against the developer,” said Anoop Rana, one of the flat owners.

After the meeting of the committee, Unitech had submitted an affidavit to the Haryana government, specifying new timelines with regard to the delivery of the project. As per this, Unitech committed to delivering 1,100 flats in phases by August. However, till date, Unitech has delivered only 12 flats.

Vikram Bishnoi, RABA president, said: “Unitech was supposed to make a three-tier basement for parking as stated in the buyer-seller agreement. But, what lies there today is an open ditch where no construction has happened since the last seven years. We are waiting for a disaster like the Kolkata flyover to happen at the site. The 11 towers Unitech has built are just two metres away from the open ditch, which is more than 60 feet deep.”

Hearing grievances of the buyers, Mr. Khattar issued instructions for the formation of a crisis management to ascertain the risk due to non-completion of the basement. When contacted, a Unitech spokesperson said: “Unitech has already delivered over 300 units and we hope to meet our commitment on future deliveries.”
