Gupta demands Jain’s exit

Vijender Gupta says move essential to prevent Mr. Jain from influencing CBI probe

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has demanded that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “immediately remove” Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain so that he can’t influence the CBI probe against him by tampering with documents under his charge.

‘Gross misconduct’

Mr. Gupta said this course of action was “essential” as the CBI, in its FIR, had said that Mr. Jain, being a public servant had committed “gross misconduct which requires a preliminarily enquiry in the matter of money laundering.”

“Mr. Jain used laundered money to purchase 20 bighas of agricultural land worth ₹27.69 crore in Delhi during 2010-11 to 2013-14. It is not only immoral but illegal that subsequently, as Minister of Urban Development, he used his influence to declare these areas as residential areas in order to gain huge financial benefit from the rise in the land price,” he alleged.

Terming it a “grave charge” and alleging that Mr. Jain’s family had also been “found to have connived with him”, Mr. Gupta stressed that Mr. Kejriwal shielding Mr. Jain was “disgusting”.

Mr. Jain’s removal from his office, he added, was essential in view of his holding an important position in the Delhi government.

“The CBI found that money in cash was given, allegedly by the main beneficiary, Satyendar Kumar Jain, through his employee and associates, to some Calcutta-based entry operators of different shell companies for providing accommodation entries in lieu of cash. As per investigations conducted by the Income Tax Department, the main beneficiary of the financial transactions was Mr. Jain himself,” said Mr. Gupta, alleging that the Minister was “a clear-cut culprit and must be dealt with accordingly.”
