The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two members of a gun-running racket following a tip-off.
Uttar Pradesh residents Kadeem and Chaman are accused of supplying over 500 guns to gangs in the National Capital Region, including the Pasonda and Namastey gangs.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Omvir Singh said the police had received a tip-off last week about the arrival of the bulk supplier to Delhi. According to the tip-off, he was expected to pass through Nala Road in Jagatpuri and go to Shastri Park to deliver a consignment. “The team laid a trap at near a school in Jagatpuri. At 11.35 p.m. on October 1, a bike with two riders was seen turning towards Nala Road. After confirmation by the informer, the team swung into action to nab them. They tried to flee but the vehicle slipped and they fell,” he said.
As the team approached the bikers, one of them allegedly opened fire. “Fortunately, the bullet missed a sub-inspector. The duo was overpowered. Ten pistols and nine live cartridges were recovered from them,” added Mr. Singh.
