‘Mission admission’ to all newly-introduced four-year undergraduate courses at Delhi University is set to begin from Wednesday and here is what students can expect from the time they buy the application form till the time they land a seat.
First of all, the sale of common application forms, also known as the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) forms, will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and the applications can be submitted till June 19.
This is the only way that a student can apply to any of DU’s undergraduate colleges, except for St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College, which follow their own admission procedure.
“Do not apply twice”
The university has cautioned that students should, under no circumstances, opt for double admission.
“A student who has filled the application form online should not apply again in the hard copy format as it will amount to double admission and lead to automatic cancellation,” said Deputy Dean Dr. Gulshan Sawhney.
Students applying under the extra-curricular activities and sports quota will have to apply individually to colleges in addition to submitting the OMR form.
Big change
Colleges will have different dates in this respect and it will be better for students to enquire or visit their websites regularly. A minimum score of 45 per cent to 50 per cent, depending on the course, is the eligibility criteria to apply.
A big change this year is that choice of college cannot be mentioned and students can only list their subject preference. There are no limits to the number of courses that a student can apply for.
Once the OMR process is over on June 19, the data from the forms will be sent to colleges and based on the number of students applying for each course available in each college the first cut-off list will be released on June 27.
Students making the cut in any of the colleges will be able to get themselves admitted within three days.
For students who take admission within the first list and then meet the cut-off in some other subject or course in the second list which they want to go for, the Dean Students’ Welfare Office’s advice is to cancel the admission in the first college.
“They will return your documents within 24 hours, but will take some more time to refund the fees. But if you get yourself admitted in the second college without cancelling the first, then both admissions will be cancelled as it will again be treated as double admission,” Dr. Sawhney explained.
There is no first come, first served basis, so there is no need to rush, the university has advised, adding that any student meeting the cut-offs in the college will have to be admitted.
