Days after his burial, the grief-stricken family of slain National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed returned to the Jamia Nagar burial ground to perform the last rites of his wife Farzana on Wednesday.
The family’s hopes were dashed earlier in the day after doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences announced that she had succumbed to the bullet wounds. She was a government school teacher.
As per the wishes of Farzana’s maternal family, her body was taken to their Batla House residence instead of her husband’s Shaheen Bagh home. Raghib and Ruskhsana, the brother and sister-in-law of the officer, were also present.
As soon as the news of her death broke, family, friends, some of her students and colleagues turned up to pay their last respects. Relatives were heard wondering about the future of the couple’s children.
Mr. Raghib Ahmed questioned the U. P. police theory about their deaths being the fallout of personal enmity. He said he was confident the NIA would unearth every conspiracy behind their deaths.
Also in attendance at the burial ground were several officers of the Border Security Force (BSF). The deceased officer had gone on a deputation from the BSF to the NIA, where he was serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police. They paid their tributes to Farzana. The force also sent a vehicle and a team to escort the body from AIIMS to the funeral ground.
