With the intervention of District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) here, a one month old girl allegedly sold for Rs. 500 by her mother to a eunuch, was retrieved on Monday and handed over to the baby’s grandmother for custody.

“We retrieved the baby girl from the eunuch and left her under the custody of her grandmother near Cuttack railway station”, said the DCPO Pragati Mohanty.

According to reports, a middle-aged Tamil woman visibly appearing to be mentally ill had sold her newborn for Rs 500. When the reports appeared in newspapers, the DCPO conducted an enquiry and traced the girl with a eunuch in Tangi area of the district.
