With fresh stocks expected soon, Delhiites can heave a sigh of relief
The increasing price of onions in the Capital is expected to ease with the arrival of stocks from Alwar in a couple of days.
The decision was announced on Wednesday at a high-level meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia to discuss measures for stabilising onion prices.
The Delhi Government has also decided to arrange 150 mobile vans to sell onions at a reasonable price from Saturday, instead of the 50 vans announced earlier.
The vans will be deployed at various places across the city and some will be stationed at certain static points for the entire day.
The offices of the Commissioner Food and Civil Supplies and the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board will monitor the vans.
Mr. Spolia expressed hope that the retail price will be brought down to Rs. 45 per kg.
Apart from heavy rain that reduced onion production, the restrictions on movement of trucks ahead of Independence Day has affected the arrival of onions in the Capital substantially.
