The State Health Department is all set to roll out yet another major shake up among the medical superintendents of its hospitals. The move was confirmed by Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain during an exclusive interview with The Hindu on Wednesday.
“Yes, we are looking at a reshuffle. This is nothing out of the ordinary. I haven’t seen the final list so far. When the transfers happen everyone will know,” said the Health Minister.
The planned reshuffle comes close on the heels of the escalating public confrontation between AAP and Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on key appointments in the Delhi Government.
Sources have confirmed that 10 medical heads of various Delhi Government hospitals are to be moved soon.
“The move is aimed at increasing overall productivity and maximising the capacity of the hospital,” said a senior health official. Meanwhile, the medical superintendents of Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital and Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital are reportedly on the latest transfer list.
Questioning the move Indian Medical Association office bearer Dr. K.K. Aggarwal noted: “Consultants look into the day-to-day running of the hospital and the medical heads are required for the overall policy formation and implementation. The Government has to allow people to settle in, understand the strengths and weakness of their particular hospital and work towards high quality patient care. Frequent transfers benefit none.”
