The Delhi Government has taken a very serious view on water-logging and will not tolerate any type of negligence in this regard, said Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh at a meeting on Thursday to discuss water-logging issues faced by the city. He said that the Government will fix the responsibility on the officers concerned and strong action will be taken against those who are found negligent in performing their duties efficiently and carefully with respect to water-logging issues.
The meeting held at Delhi Secretariat was attended by North Delhi Municipal Commissioner P. K. Gupta, South Delhi Municipal Commissioner Manish Gupta, East Delhi Municipal Commissioner S. S. Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg and engineers and officials from the Public Works Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, the Delhi Jal Board and the three civic bodies.
Coordination vital
Mr. Singh said that coordination between the various departments and the civic bodies is essential to take up the issue seriously. A list of roads prone to water-logging prepared by the traffic police has been handed over to the agencies concerned to take measures to prevent water stagnation in the city, he added.
Meanwhile, the level of the Yamuna reduced to 204 metres on Thursday. “The level has reduced by 70 cm since Wednesday,” said Irrigation and Flood Control Department Chief Engineer V.P.S. Tomar, adding the levels are expected to recede further. “There has been no rainfall in the upper catchment area. Water-level at Hathni Kund has reduced to between 17,000 and 18,000 cusecs,” he added. The department will continue to monitor the levels closely.
