The good weather in the Capital seems to have come with its own set of woes.
This week alone the city saw 38 new dengue cases, taking the total to 158 so far.
According to figures released by the civic body, the North Corporation has reported 27 cases, South 63 and East 22.
Besides, 29 cases were reported from around Delhi and 17 from other States.
“The sharpest rise in dengue cases was witnessed in September-October and dengue mosquito breeding was found in various institutions including Lok Nayak Hospital and the headquarters of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation,’’ noted a release issued by the civic body.
3,482 cases in 2013The Capital reported 4,286 dengue cases in 2010, 346 cases in 2011, 388 in 2012 and 3,482 in 2013.
“Delhi witnessed a large number of dengue cases in 2010, with over 6,200 cases. The decline in the number of cases this year has been attributed to delayed rains. The numbers are, however, slowly climbing with favourable weather being witnessed in the city,’’ said Dr. Anil Bansal of the Delhi Medical Association.
Preventive drive – including fumigation, checking of breeding areas and awareness campaigns -- undertaken by the civic bodies much before the onset of the monsoon has also helped, civic body authorities said.
11,845 prosecutionsAccording to the report, 1,48,015 households were found positive for mosquito breeding, while legal notices were served to over 1,04,752 for mosquitogenic conditions. As many as 11,845 prosecutions were also launched during the period.
Meanwhile, 57 cases of malaria along with four cases of chikungunya have also been recorded in the city till October 4 .
