Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Saket MLA Vijay Jolly was robbed in south Delhi’s Saket on Wednesday evening.

Mr. Jolly, a resident of Sainik Farms, said the incident happened while he was eating golgappas at a roadside stall around 8 p.m. in Lado Sarai.

His car was parked adjacent to the stall, when two bike-borne youths allegedly stole his bag.

Rear window broken

“A friend and I stopped at a stall to eat golgappas . A couple beckoned us, pointing towards my car. That’s when I saw the right rear window was broken and my shoulder bag missing,” he said.

Mr. Jolly added that his bag contained his laptop, a camera, and documents, including letters addressed to the Home Minister, the Transport Minister, the Lieutenant-Governor and Delhi BJP president.

Mr. Jolly told The Hindu that the couple told him two young men on a bike without a number plate had stolen his bag.

“I asked them to point me in the direction the duo had gone. It turned out to be Aurobindo Marg. I spotted them at a liquor shop but they managed to escape due to heavy traffic,” he said.

The police have registered an FIR on charges of theft and started investigation.

The former MLA claimed he met a man outside the police station who had come to report the snatching of his mobile phone near the same place from where his bag was stolen.
