Delhi University is yet to iron out technical glitches five days after it launched an online portal announcing registrations for merit-based undergraduate courses.
On Friday morning, the website was closed for maintenance. However, applicants reportedly had a tough time navigating through it even after it was reopened.
Applicants clueless
Yashwant Kapoor, one of the applicants, said that although he had managed to register himself by filling his personal details, there was not much information available about the courses or rules on how to calculate the best-of-four percentage. “I attended the open house session, but it will be tough unless the information is consolidated on the website. The delay in CBSE results has only made us more anxious and the lack of clarity from DU is adding to it,” said Yashwant.
Rahul Gopal from Andhra Pradesh said that he was considering visiting Delhi to understand the process as the website wasn’t of much help. “I thought the process would be smooth, but sitting far away from Delhi I have many questions. There may be a rush towards the end, which is why I am considering coming to Delhi before the cut-off lists come out. This will mean two trips as there is a gap of almost 10 days between the last date for registration and the release of the first cut-off list,” said Rahul.
‘Don’t be in a hurry’
Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, a member of DU’s Admissions Committee, told students during the open house session that they should not be in a hurry to submit their forms. Mr. Tuteja said that the online portal was opened ahead of the CBSE results so that there was no rush in the last few days. “Take your time filling the form. The tabs that are inactive will be activated soon after the CBSE results are declared,” he told students, asking them not to panic.
DU, meanwhile, also plans to set up touchscreen kiosks at the Conference Centre to enable applicants to access information here if they are unable to do so otherwise.
Khalsa colleges
The four Sikh minority colleges, meanwhile, have also announced that they will launch a common registration portal — www.dukhalsacolleges.com — that students will be required to complete after they fill the centralised DU form.
The four colleges include Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College of Commerce, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College and Mata Sundri College for Women. They are managed by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), with as many as 50% seats reserved for Sikh students.
