All schools and colleges in Ghaziabad will remain shut on Monday in view of the sentencing in the Dera Sacha Sauda rape case.

The order, issued by Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ministhy S., read, “The Ghaziabad District Magistrate directs all schools in the region to remain closed tomorrow [on Monday]. Apart from schools, all degree colleges and technical institutes will remain closed on Monday.”

Noida schools open

Schools and colleges in Noida will, however, remain open on Monday.

“We don’t find any reason to close schools. The police have been asked to remain vigilant from Sunday night,” said Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate B.N. Singh.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in both Noida and Ghaziabad ahead of the sentencing. Senior police and administration officials in Noida and Ghaziabad have been holding meetings to avoid any untoward incidents.

“Following violence in Anand Vihar and Loni, the district administration officials of Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar have been asked to remain alert. The State government is constantly monitoring the situation,” said a senior Uttar Pradesh government official, who did not wish to be named.

‘Maintain peace’

“Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony in the State,” the official added.

Gautam Budh Nagar SP Love Kumar said the police are closely reviewing the security arrangements. “The police are in touch with Dera followers in Greater Noida. We have given instructions that nobody will be allowed to take the law in their own hands,” said Mr. Kumar.

The Ghaziabad district administration also appealed to the residents to maintain peace on Monday.
