A day after Anuradha Sharma, mother of former MDLR Airlines air hostess Geetika Sharma, was found hanging at her residence, her mortal remains were consigned to flames here on Saturday after a post-mortem was carried out at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.
The post-mortem was conducted in the afternoon following which the last rites of the 52-year-old government servant were performed at a crematorium in Punjabi Bagh in presence of a large number of family members including Ms. Sharma’s husband Dinesh and her son Ankit.
The post-mortem report is expected next week.
Ms. Sharma ended her life on Friday in the same manner and in the same room of the house where her daughter had hung herself in August last year. A suicide note was also recovered from the spot in which she had blamed former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda and his close aide Aruna Chadha for her daughter’s death which she said had left her sad and depressed.
Geetika too had blamed Mr. Kanda and Ms. Chadha for her suicide, accusing them of ruining her life and harassing her family members. Following her death, the police had registered a case against the two in which Ms. Sharma was the complainant.
The police, who have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Mr. Kanda and Ms. Chadha in Ms. Sharma’s case also, have denied that the family lodged any complaint against either for harassing them or putting pressure on them. Nowhere in Ms. Sharma’s suicide note has she mentioned that she was being harassed, said the police.
Asked whether they would go through the call records of the families of the victim (s) and the two common accused in both cases, the police said so far nothing has come up to suggest that there was a need for such an exercise.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) P. Karunakaran said even after Ms. Sharma’s death, the family members have not informed the police about any harassment. He, however, added that the police would talk to the family members again once they come out of the shock.
“The note that the victim has left is written in Hindi and it is a two-page document. The first page is the suicide note while in the second page she has addressed Ankit and left a message for him,” said Mr. Karunakaran.
According to the police, Ms. Sharma, who had been under depression since her daughter’s death, avoided being alone and the family also made sure that there was someone with her all the time. In the note also Ms. Sharma has purportedly written that she spent a lot of time thinking about her deceased daughter.
On Friday, Ms. Sharma and her son had planned to meet and have lunch together but later she changed her mind and returned home where she allegedly took the extreme step.
