Three cars were gutted to fire as an underground pipeline of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) caught fire in Moti Bagh area of South Delhi on Friday morning.
The fire incident which took place around 9.30 a.m. occurred due to a leaking gas pipeline crossing through the area. Fire department doused the fire by 11 a.m.
While no casualty was reported, the incident led to massive traffic jams on arterial roads in the area.
According to the fire department, the leakage and the subsequent fire occurred due to a Delhi Metro construction going on nearby.
“We received a call about the incident around 9.30 a.m. after which 10 fire tenders were sent to the spot to douse the fire,” said a fire department official.
Prima facie it appears that the fire took place due to a leakage caused by ongoing construction, the official said. However, the matter is being probed by police, he added.
