Angry over alleged thrashing of a fellow employee, the workers of a garment factory in neighbouring Gurgaon went on the rampage torching vehicles and indulging in heavy stone-pelting and clashing with the police on Monday.
The police resorted to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.
Abhey Rao, DCP (West) Gurgaon, said around 1,000 workers of the factory at Udyog Vihar at Sector 37 clashed with police leaving two cops and around 10 workers injured.
They damaged the official vehicles of an ACP of Gurgaon police along with 20 bikes, two trucks, a Toyota Corolla and vandalised fire tenders.
The workers also pelted stones at the company premises, shouted slogans against the management and accused a contractor of assaulting them.
The situation was brought under control late in the evening when senior police officials intervened in the matter.
The workers alleged the contractor of the company regularly assaulted them and that was why, some of workers went for leave on Sunday.
On Monday morning when they came back to the company, the contractor allegedly attacked some workers with scissors, leaving three workers with minor injures.
Agitated over the issue, the workers damaged the official vehicle of Tahir Hussain (ACP Traffic) of Gurgaon.
The situation was brought under control when Abhey Rao, (DCP) West, and Hamid Akhtar, (DCP) South Gurgaon, talked to agitated workers.
A case under various sections of IPC has been registered against the workers but no formal arrests have been made till late in the evening, added Rao.
