A court here on Friday held a corruption complaint against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and others in the conduct of the 2010 Commonwealth Games “maintainable”.
“I find the complaint maintainable,” said Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi on the complaint filed by Right to Information activist Vivek Garg. The court issued notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Additional DCP of the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police to appear in person before it on September 26 armed with “proper reports”. The others whom Mr. Garg has accused in the complaint for alleged corruption in CWG-related projects are Public Works Department Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and former Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
The Magistrate said the police had made a “deliberate attempt” to cause “unnecessary delay” in filing a reply to queries put to it by the court last year. Earlier, the court had asked the police for a point-by-point reply to each query raised in the complaint and whether a cognizable offence was committed. Interestingly, the police also said that as CWG-related projects were already being investigated by CBI, “all the complaints have been sent to CBI as the subject matter and allegations in the present complaint are also related to CWG”, which Mr. Garg opposed. Mr. Garg alleged large-scale corruption in the construction and upgradation of stadiums.
