: The Union Ministry of Road Transport has constituted a three-member panel regarding the pleas of taxi operators in response to the Supreme Court ban on diesel vehicles, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said on Monday.

Mr. Gupta said the announcement was made after he met Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, at his Transport Bhawan office, along with taxi operators and union representatives. “As per Mr. Gadkari’s directive, the panel will be headed by Union Road Transport Secretary Sanjay Mitra. The members include Joint Secretary Road Transport Abhey Dambley and Delhi government Commissioner of Transport Sanjay Kumar. The government will file a review petition at the earliest before the Apex Court,” said Mr. Gupta.

He said the panel aims at comprehensively putting the case of transport operators in Delhi before the Supreme Court.

‘Will ensure justice’

Expressing sympathy with the hardship being faced by the taxi operators, Mr. Gadkari said he would do his best to ensure that full justice is done in defending their cause, Mr. Gupta said.

“Mr. Gadkari was apprised of the difficulties being faced by taxi operators and the public due to the ban imposed by the Supreme Court,” Mr. Gupta said.

“The Enforcement Department of the Delhi government is impounding these taxies despite the fact that the Police Commissioner has assured that the police will not take such action against the taxies,” he said, adding that the Kejriwal government was meting out “unfair treatment” to the taxi operators after not pleading their case in the SC in a proper manner.
