A Delhi court on Tuesday issued fresh summons to former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal for recording his evidence as prosecution witness in the Rs.10-crore cash-for-job Railway bribery case of 2013.
The court had earlier directed the senior Congress leader to appear on Tuesday for giving his evidence in the case, but he failed to turn up citing indisposition.
Directing Mr. Bansal to appear on September 22 for disposing in the case, the court said it not extend the date for his evidence further on the next date.
The former Minister’s nephew Vijay Singla, suspended Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar and eight others are facing trial in the case.
The court had in March framed charges against all the 10 accused — Mahesh Kumar, his associate and managing director of Bangalore-based G.G. Tronics India Private Limited Narayan Rao Manjunath; Mr. Singla; his accomplice Sandeep Goyal; Ajay Garg; Rahul Yadav; Samir Sandhir; Sushil Daga; C.V. Venugopal and M.V. Murali Krishan under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code read with various provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The charge-sheet alleges that Mr. Singla had demanded Rs.10 crore from Mr. Kumar for his appointment as Member (Electrical) in the Railway Board. The money was to be delivered to him in instalments. The investigating agency’s sleuths had arrested Mr. Singla while demanding and accepting about Rs.90 lakh as the first instalment of the bribe amount, the charge-sheet has alleged.
