A freelance journalist has been arrested for allegedly filming a real estate agent in a compromising position with a woman and trying to extort Rs.10 lakh from him.
The accused, Sanjiv Sharma (34), had allegedly hatched a conspiracy along with a businessman who owed Rs.6 lakh to the victim in a land deal.
Rajender Singh Khattana, a resident of Faridabad, lodged a complaint with the police on March 21 saying that a man had filmed him in a compromising position with a woman and was demanding Rs.10 lakh threatening to expose him.
The complainant purportedly told the police that the woman had called him in the first week of March posing as an insurance agent and then kept calling him frequently.
On March 12, the woman invited the real estate agent to a DDA flat in Kalkaji and the two had consensual sex.
A week later Sanjiv called up Rajender introducing himself as a Press reporter and claimed that he had a compact disc of his sexual encounter with the woman.
Sanjiv allegedly demanded Rs.10 lakh from Rajender and threatened to send the CD to his wife if the demand were not met.
Payment made
The real estate agent eventually agreed to pay Rs.8 lakh. He delivered Rs.30,000 through a friend on March 21 and also made a complaint to the police.
The police laid a trap at the India Habitat Centre parking lot on Thursday and arrested Sanjiv when he came to collect the remaining amount.
The CD containing the recording, four mobile phones and some press cards were allegedly seized.
During interrogation it was purportedly revealed that Neeraj Aggarwal had approached Sanjiv to film the real estate agent in a compromising position with some woman and extort money.
Posing as insurance agent
As per the plan, Sanjiv called up Rajender through a Chinese mobile phone posing as a woman insurance agent and called him to a rented flat fitted with hidden cameras.
Sanjiv then arranged a sex worker through his contacts and filmed the real estate agent in a compromising position with her.
Sanjiv is a resident of Govindpuri and claims to be working for a weekly magazine and newspaper.
Neeraj is absconding.
