Four persons have been arrested by the South-East Delhi Police for alleged involvement in several cases of auto-theft and car jacking in the Capital and its neighbourhood.
Two stolen cars and two motorcycles have allegedly been seized. One of the accused, Jagdish Meena alias Chottu, is also wanted in connection with the murder of a sales officer and abduction and rape in Rajasthan.
A police team carrying out routine vehicle check on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road on January 7 evening signalled a Hyundai Verna car coming from Pul Prahladpur to stop at which the driver, later identified as Subhash Kumar, got down from the vehicle and tried to flee. He was arrested and purportedly confessed to having stolen the car from Roop Nagar along with Jagdish and Banwari. Further interrogation revealed that Subhash was involved in several cases of auto-theft along with Jagdish, Banwari and Kahlil. The three were later arrested at his instance.
During interrogation, Jagdish purported told the police that he had shot Sales Tax Officer Kishan Lal Meena in Rajasthan in August last during carjacking and robbed him of his Wagon-R, mobile phone, Rs.50,000 in cash and plastic cards. Also, Jagdish along with Pintoo had allegedly abducted and raped a girl in Rajasthan. Besides these two cases, Jagdish is also wanted in three cases of highway robbery in Rajasthan.
Banwari is a proclaimed offender and wanted by the Rajasthan Police in six heinous cases, including murder and rape.
The accused would steal vehicles, tamper their registration and chassis numbers and sold them to receivers of stolen vehicles in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the police said.
