Four unidentified armed men who posed as policemen allegedly robbed a Mumbai-based jeweller of 10 kg gold on Sunday night, the police said on Monday.
The incident took place at an underpass near Sahibabad railway station, the police added.
Rohit Jain, owner of a jewellery shop in Mumbai, was returning from Meerut with his friend Krishna and driver Ramashish.
At gunpoint
They had stopped their car near an eatery in Sahibabad when four miscreants posing as policemen intervened them. They asked Mr. Ramashish to stop the car for checking.
Holding them at gunpoint, the criminals took them to a secluded place near Wazirabad Road where they robbed the entire stock of gold and fled the spot.
Following this, Mr. Jain along with his accomplices reached the nearest police station lodged an FIR.
The jewellery was kept in two separate bags, said the police who refused to reveal the exact quantity of stolen gold.
The stolen gold is worth over ₹3 crore, said sources.
‘Case registered’
“An FIR has been lodged against unknown accused and we hope to solve the case soon. Initial investigations have helped us in getting some essential clues about the robbers and we are following them in order to arrest them at the earliest,” said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police (City), Ghaziabad.
