The Delhi Police have arrested four persons for allegedly kidnapping a North-West Delhi based businessman at the behest of the latter’s colleagues for a ransom of Rs.2 crore.

The case came to light after the victim, Saurabh Ahuja, contacted the police after being released. He said he was kidnapped by 4-5 persons from his guest-house in Shalimar Bagh a week ago along with his friends Manish Kumar and Shivika Chauhan. He was confined to a room and beaten up.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said: “The victim told us that the kidnappers asked him to make phone calls to his bank managers and family members and asked them to pay Rs.2 crore, but they later settled for Rs.1 crore.”

“A case of kidnapping was registered after which a team of the Crime Branch arrested the kidnappers identified as Sunil Rathee, Krishan, Ravi Hooda and Sandeep Sharma on Friday. Interrogation of the accused revealed that they were hired by Mr. Ahuja’s colleagues Mainsh and Shivika who were kidnapped along with him,” added Mr. Yadav.

Later we found that they were just pretending to be kidnapped and had actually hatched a conspiracy along with their other colleagues – Raj Walia and Arun Vohra, he said.

We found out that Arun Vohra wanted to marry Shivika Chauhan and when he got to know that Saurabh Ahuja is a rich man, he along with his other colleagues planned to kidnap him to become rich overnight and get married.

The hired criminals have been arrested. However, the conspirators are still absconding.
