Four persons, including two graduates, have been arrested for allegedly abducting a share broker and seeking Rs.10 lakh in ransom for his safe release. All four are residents of Delhi.
The police received a call in the early hours of July 16 saying that Rakesh Rajput, a share broker, had been kidnapped from inside Poorva Sanskritik Kendra, a cultural centre in East Delhi, a few hours ago. The caller, Lavish, told the police that Rakesh had come to PSK with him for a business meeting with one Ajay when more than half-a-dozen young men in two cars forcibly took him away. Lavish again called up the police around 4 a.m. saying that he had received a call from the kidnappers seeking Rs.10 lakh in ransom.
Taking up investigation, a team led by the Preet Vihar police station Inspector Pankaj Malik found that the kidnappers were constantly changing place for the delivery of ransom. Finally the kidnappers asked the friends of the broker to reach Bhajanpura with the money. A little later four young men riding two motorcycles along with the victim reached the venue. The police team waiting there swooped down on them and arrested Dharmender (25) and Mohammad Akram (22). Two of their accomplices managed to escape. The victim was, however, rescued.
The police later mounted raids at several places in East Delhi and arrested Mahesh Sharma (28) and Dinesh Sisodia (32).
It was purportedly revealed during interrogation of the accused that Dharmender had lent Rs.10 lakh to Dinesh for investment and the latter further lent it to Mahesh. The money further changed hands to reach Ajay who gave it to Rakesh for share trading. Rakesh further lent the money to Tavish, a resident of Chandigarh. Of late, Tavish had stopped responding to the calls of Rakesh seeking details about the investment.
Dharmender, a Meerut University graduate, was now putting pressure on Dinesh and others to return his money.
Rakesh and Ajay decided to meet at the PSK on July 15 to sort out the matter, but Dharmender and his friends get to know about it and hatched a plan to kidnap Rakesh and recover the money. As per the plan, Dharmender along with his half-a-dozen friends reached the PSK and allegedly kidnapped Rakesh.
Mohammad Akram is a DU graduate. Dinesh is a web-designer and Mahesh is a businessman. Two cars and a motorcycle used in the crime have allegedly been seized.
