The former Uttar Pradesh police chief, Brijlal on Wednesday joined the BJP in presence of party’s State unit in-charge Om Mathur.
Through his entry, the BJP aims at making further inroads into the Dalit votebank which is regarded as strong territory of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
“Brijlal is joining the BJP and will start his political innings. During his tenure as IPS, he never compromised with criminal elements and dealt with them with iron hands. He now wants to work under the leadership of Narendra Modi,” BJP State unit president Laxmi Kant Bajpai told journalists here.
The former Director General of Police (DGP) has always been regarded as a close confidant BSP chief Mayawati. It was during her tenure as Chief Minister, Mr. Brijlal was first made Additional Director General and then made the top cop. When Akhilesh Yadav became Chief Minister, he removed Mr. Brijlal from the post of DGP.
Meanwhile, another retired IPS officer Gyan Singh and former MLA Rajendra Singh also joined the BJP. .
