The 19-year-old son of former Jharkhand MLA Manishankar died in an accident after his car turned turtle in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Thursday morning.

The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain whether Sawarnim Shankar was inebriated at the time of the accident.

The police said Sawarnim, a resident of Preet Vihar, was supposed to go to a pub with friends at a Vasant Kunj mall on Wednesday night. However, he was not allowed entry into the pub as he did not have an original ID card and left the mall around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

The police received a call regarding the accident in the forest area of Vasant Kunj around 1.30 a.m. When a team reached the spot, they were informed that some passersby had taken the youth to the Indian Spinal Injury Centre.

Locals told the police that the speeding car first hit a divider, broke the wall, turned turtle and landed in the forest area.

The locals got the youth out of the mangled car and took him to the hospital. However, he was declared dead at the hospital. His family members have been informed, the police said.
