Former Delhi MLA Vijay Jolly has alleged that two men poured “poisonous” oil on his car in a bid to rob him while he was in south-east Delhi’s Tigri on Saturday night.

Case registered

The police have registered a case of attempt to commit theft based on Mr. Jolly’s complaint, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya.

Mr. Jolly alleged that miscreants poured engine oil on the radiator of his car while he was busy on his mobile phone inside. The AC was on and the driver had gone to ask directions to an event at Agrasen Park, M. B. Road, Khanpur, where Mr. Jolly was a special invitee.

Mr. Jolly said he suddenly found himself choking due to poisonous fumes inside his car. He was allegedly about to faint but somehow managed to exit his sports utility vehicle with a bottle of mineral water in hand.

He poured water over his head and face, even as his driver rushed back and locked the car with an automatic key.

He claimed that two youths on a motorcycle passed by saying “oil is leaking from your car”.

“They probably wanted to get away with personal belongings lying on the back seat of the car. But the sudden appearance of my driver averted a major robbery,” said a statement issued by Mr. Jolly.
