“ Kitne aadmi the? Sarkaar ek bhi nahi. Phir bhi itna majja...Bahut nainsaafi hai ,” read the slogan of one of the teams — ‘Go Dhanno’ — at the women’s car rally held over the weekend. The event saw participation by over 100 teams with innovative names and catchy slogans highlighting social issues like green Gurgaon, energy conservation, upliftment of women and breast cancer.
In record books
Organised by Uthaan, a non-government organisation, for the past 10 years to highlight various social causes, the rally is held every year from Gurugram to different locations. The rally has been recognised as India's longest inter-State women’s car rally as per Limca Book of Records since 2007.
The participants covered over 300 km in eight hours starting at Sohna and pass through Panchgaon, Bhiwadi, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary, Thana Ghazi and Pratapgarh before reaching Alwar Bagh resort.
All walks of life
Women from all walks of life, including an engineering graduate, a psychology post-graduate, a consultant anaesthesiologist, an IT professional, a lawyer and an entrepreneur, from across the country took part in the rally with family and friends. Each team comprised a woman driver, and navigator apart from co-passengers. Dressed according to their theme, the women also decorated their cars.
Anita Yadav of Team Zzing got her 11-year-old daughter along, both dressed in a Rajasthani attire. “This was my first car rally. I was thrilled to participate and style myself and my driver Minakshi Tiwari. I opted for an ethnic attire. It was fun to see the colour added by the different participants. The cars were also beautifully decked up which perked up the atmosphere of the rally,” said Puja Mishra, artist and designer from team “Fusion Girls”.
