Bollywood’s favourite screen mother Reema Lagoo will now reappear on the small screen in a brand new soap opera by Rajshri productions.

Reema, who had been refusing television assignments for the past two years, was initially hesitant to become a part of Do Hanson Ka Jodaa that airs on NDTV Imagine on January 18. But the veteran actor agreed to do the project simply because she could relate to the character. The storyline and the famous production house, which gave a tremendous boost to her film career in Salman Khan-starrer super hit film Maine Pyaar Kiya, were the other factors that compelled her to start a new innings on television.

“First I said no to the offer but Kavita Barjatya (Rajshri productions) narrated the script to me and assured me that unlike other serials my role will not be extended up to one full year. Moreover, I could empathise with the character Snehalata who despite suffering from so many illnesses is full of life. She is calm and composed and also a devotee of Lord Krishna.”

Snehalata is a doting mother who takes decision on behalf of her daughter. “I am against my daughter marrying Suryakamal but she goes ahead with her decision. The serial traces Preeti’s (Shubhangi Atre) journey as she struggles to adjust to this new reality in her life.”

Though the story has the stamp of Rajshri productions, the looks of male lead Shaleen Bhanot, who plays Suryakamal, are inspired by Shah Rukh Khan’s bespectacled character in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. “It is a mere co-incidence that Suryakamal looks like Shah Rukh’s character in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. He also sports a moustache and wears spectacles like SRK, but I think any middle class man would look the same. But comparisons between the two fictitious characters end here. In terms of temperament Suryakamal is poles apart from SRK’s character.”

According to Kavita Barjatya, TV Division Producer, Rajshri Productions, Do Hanson Ka Jodaa is a story or a situation that we all have been through in our lives… “Sometimes two individuals who have come together are so different so unlike, but as time goes by we realise that these two individuals have come together or have been destined to come together. This is Preeti’s story who dreams of a perfect life just like it happens in the movies… so beautiful, so perfect. But fate has other things in store for her.”
