A Delhi court on Tuesday remanded to judicial custody the flight attendant arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday night for allegedly trying to smuggle $4,80,200 (over ₹3 crore) out of the country.

Duty Magistrate Ritu Singh sent the Jet Airways crew member and alleged hawala operator Amit Malhotra to judicial custody, directing the probe agency to produce them before the court concerned on Thursday.

The flight attendant, who is accused of being part of a global hawala syndicate, was intercepted by DRI officials at the Delhi airport here.

The woman is accused of carrying foreign currency several times in the past at the behest of Mr. Malhotra.

The alleged hawala operator used airline crew members for smuggling foreign exchange.

He had befriended the Jet Airways crew member six months ago during a flight to India.
