In a suspected case of rape, a five-year-old girl was brutalised and murdered in Hisar’s Uklana on Saturday. The body of the girl was found a few meters away from her house with a wooden stick inserted in her private parts.

The incident led to a public outcry in the area with the locals forcing the local market to shut down in protest against suspected rape and murder of the minor. The locals also held a candle light vigil in the evening.

The matter came to light around 6 a.m. when the girl’s mother found her missing after she got up in the morning. The body was found near a telephone exchange building.

SIT constituted

The woman, who belongs to the Sapera community, said she had gone to sleep in her jhuggi along with her three kids, including the victim, but the girl was missing in the morning.

“While the woman was frantically looking for the girl in the neighbourhood, a waste-collector informed her that a body was lying a few meters away near the telephone exchange building. The deceased was identified as the missing girl,” said Raj Kapoor, a neighbour.

Superintendent of Police (Hisar) Manisha Choudhary said that the body was found with a wooden stick inserted in her private parts.

She, however, added that rape and cause of death could only be confirmed after the post-mortem report was received.

“We have set up a SIT to probe the matter. A couple of people have been detained for questioning but no arrests have been made so far,” said Ms. Choudhary.
