Five schoolchildren were killed and several injured in a road accident on Monday in Siwan district. The enraged family members of the victims later indulged in violence and ransacked the town hospital while setting parked ambulances on fire.

Compensation

The State government announced a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to the family members of those killed in the accident.

The accident occurred when a pick-up van carrying the students to a coaching institute collided with a Bolero jeep near Tirbhedia village. Five of them died on the spot while the injured were taken to the government hospital.

The family members of the injured students reached the hospital and alleged that there weren't enough doctors and the children did not receive prompt medical attention. They later indulged in violence and ransacked the hospital while setting parked ambulances and vehicles on fire.

The police reached the spot and tried to pacify the mob but they started pelting stones on policemen. The police later resorted to mild baton charge to chase them away.

Situation under control

The top district officials reached the spot and brought the situation under control by shifting the injured persons to private hospitals for better medical treatment.
