Five kids die in hospital, parents allege negligence

: Five infants died at a State-run hospital in Kolkata in the past two days triggering panic among the patients at the hospital.

While three children died at the Bidhan Chandra Roy Memorial Children Hospital on Thursday, two were reported dead a the State-run specialty children hospital on Friday. A section of parents alleged medical negligence which the hospital authorities denied.

“They were referred here from various districts in a critical condition. Despite our best efforts we could not save them,” Dilip Kumar Pal the hospital superintendent told The Hindu .

He said that some of the children being treated at the hospital remained critical.

“We have sent a detailed report to the State Health Department on the deaths,” Dr Pal said.

The horror of infant deaths have been reported at the hospital and Malda Medical College and Hospital on several occasions in the past. Although, the infant mortality ratio of West Bengal is better than the national average, frequent incident of child deaths is reported in these health facilities.
