A nearly five-foot-long cobra was rescued on Wednesday by the Wildlife SOS rapid response unit from inside the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) branch near Dilli Haat in Pitampura. The snake is currently under observation and will be released into its natural habitat once deemed fit.

“I was shocked to see the cobra inside my office. Since I am familiar with Wildlife SOS, I immediately contacted their team for help,” said Assistant Engineer Deepak Kumar Saxena.

Difficult operation

A team of trained snake rescuers from the NGO was immediately dispatched to the office. Since the space behind the cupboard was not very wide, it was difficult to catch the snake without alarming the venomous reptile. After ensuring that everyone was at a safe distance from the agitated snake, the team successfully extricated the cobra and carefully transferred it into a safe transport container.

Kartick Satyanarayan, the co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said: “Since cobras are one of the four most venomous snake species found in India, the team had to exercise caution while rescuing it in order to avoid unnecessary casualties. We request people not to handle wild animals or reptiles themselves as they can be dangerous, especially in cases involving venomous reptiles.”
