Five women from the Capital were felicitated with ‘Zila Mahila Samman’ on behalf of the Delhi Government here on Sunday in recognition of their extraordinary courage in adverse circumstances. The honour carries cash prize of Rs.20,000 each, which will be credited to the bank accounts of the recipients.

The occasion was a function organised by the Delhi Government’s Department of Women and Child Development at the Delhi Secretariat to mark the International Women’s Day.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, addressing the function, said the State Government would shortly set up fast track courts to render speedy justice in all cases of crimes against women.

He also announced that the Justice J.S. Verma Committee’s report on review of laws on sexual crimes would be implemented soon in the Capital.

Mr. Sisodia also released and uncovered the annual report of the Delhi Commission for Women for 2014 on the occasion.

Mr. Sisodia announced that the State Government would organise orientation programmes for MLAs and senior officers as well as volunteers in different areas of Delhi to train them for safeguarding the interests of women and ensuring their safety in society.
