Nirvana Country plans to be the first residential township in the State with rooftop solar systems. A consultative meeting was organised at MP Hall of Power Grid Corporation at Sector 43 over the weekend wherein two different models were discussed.
The Power Grid had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nirvana Country, a township in Sector 50 here, this past month to provide consultancy and supervision services for implementation of solar energy generation, integration, energy efficiency solutions and security system. The local administration aims at developing it on an experimental basis, for other townships to replicate.
In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash said that with rooftop solar system, residents would get reliable and cheaper electricity in the long run. They will get power through “Net Meter”, which will be installed by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.
He explained benefits of this system and said that according to the policy of Haryana government, consumers would be able to import and export electricity at the same rates.
Under the rules of the Haryana Government, it is mandatory for residential buildings built on a plot size of 500 sq yards and above to install solar systems latest by September 15.
Mr. Satyaprakash said that under consultation of Power Grid, the Nirvana Country residents should select one of the best out of four-five identified companies for installation of the rooftop solar system.
In the meeting, a presentation was given in which two models were shown.
One of the models was grid connected system without battery and the other with battery. In the first option, the surplus power generated from solar panels will be injected into the grid through net metering. In the second option, the surplus power will be used to charge battery and then it will be injected into the grid.
Back-up power will be available when power from grid or diesel generator set is not available.
Two financial models were also explained by the Power Grid authorities. In the first model the system is owned by the resident or consumer. In the second model, the investor finances the system.
