The fire brigade had to be rushed to rescue 10 passengers and the pilot stranded in a monorail car after power failure hit services for about three hours on Sunday morning.

The car had come to a standstill between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park on the Wadala-Chembur Line.

Two trains stalled “as they did not receive the 750 vdc electricity” that powers them, senior officials said. While one train was soon secured to the station due to temporary restoration of power, the other could not be moved as power tripped again midway.

Inquiry ordered

Services were restored by about noon, according to MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) officials.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Twitter that his government had “appointed Principal Secretary (Urban Development) to immediately initiate an inquiry.”

Kirit Somaiya, BJP MP from Mumbai, who visited the spot criticised the disaster management set-up and asked why there was no alternative power supply.
