Narrow escape: It took 22 fire tenders over five hours to douse the blaze at Kinari Bazaar in Chandni Chowk on Thursday.

A fire broke out in a three-storey building at Kinari Bazaar in Chandni Chowk on Thursday afternoon. No casualties were reported.

Last month’s incident

The spot is close to the market, where a fire broke out last month destroying goods worth crores.

A Fire Department official said a call regarding fire in a building located behind Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib was received around 1 p.m.. Twenty-two fire tenders were pressed into service and took over five hours to douse the blaze. The fire was brought under control by 6.40 p.m.

Trapped people rescued

Ten people trapped on the top floor of the building were evacuated by the firemen before the blaze spread, said a Delhi Fire Service officer. They deployed a ladder between the gurdwara and the building in the congested area in order to rescue them.

There were bangle and jewellery boxes kept on the ground and first floors, said a Fire Department officer. It’s estimated that businessmen incurred losses running into lakhs of rupees.

Fire Department officials said the firefighting operation was affected due to the congested bylanes.
