FIR filed after gang-rape convict’s interview

In an interview to filmmaker Lesee Udwin and BBC, Dec.16 gang-rape accused Mukesh has blamed his victim for her death

March 04, 2015 02:15 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:32 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Police registered an FIR on Tuesday against unknown persons in connection with the BBC interview with one of the convicts in the December 16 gang-rape case. The police also obtained restraining orders barring media from broadcasting or publishing the interview. The convict, Mukesh Singh, told British film-maker Leslee Udwin and the BBC from inside the Tihar Jail that “a girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy.” Had the girl and her friend not tried to fight back, the gang would not have inflicted on her the savage beating, which led to her death later.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called up Director-General (Prisons) Alok Kumar Verma and sought a report on how the convict was allowed to be interviewed inside the jail.

“The comments are shameful,” said the victim’s mother. “By saying something like this, the man is mocking the law.”
