A 54-year-old man died and his wife and two daughters got injured when a fire broke out in their building in north-east Delhi’s New Usmanpur in the early hours of Wednesday. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Satpal, a resident of Brahmpuri, lost his life while his wife Jaishree (48), and daughters Pooja (16) and Himanshi (17) suffered burns in the fire that broke out on the third floor of their building.

The family got stuck inside their residence on the fourth floor.

Trapped in house

The police said that the four were sleeping when the fire spread to their house around 2.30 a.m. By the time they woke up, the fire had spread all over the flat and it became impossible for them to leave the house.

According to a fire official, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but four more were sent later. The blaze was finally doused around 3.30 a.m. and the four were brought out of the flat.

Mr. Satpal was rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The other three are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in east Delhi.
