Heavy police force was deployed at the Noida Authority office in Sector 6 after hundreds of farmers staged a protest outside the building and entered the office after forcing its gate open on Monday, the police said.

They were protesting against the Authority on issues related to their residential land in 82 villages.

Old pay structure

Hundreds of farmers came on tractors, buses and cars to take part in the protest. Later, their representatives met the CEO of the Noida Authority to put forth their demands.

“As per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, farmers should get four times the prevalent market rate for their land as compensation. The government has acquired our land but given compensation as per the old pay structure,” said Jaipal Bhati, a farmer.

The farmers said they have demanded 10% developed land and 64.7% additional compensation as per the Allahabad High Court order.

“The authorities are not giving hundreds of farmers due benefits. We are the ones suffering as we have lost our homes as well our plots at very cheap rates,” Mr. Bhati added.

Police presence

“Like always, the CEO has given us assurances but we do not trust the government,” a farmer said.
