The Gautam Budh Nagar Police on Tuesday arrested Manvir Tewatia, a farmer leader who hit headlines during the clash between the police and farmers in Bhatta-Parsaul villages in May 2011, after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him from the Special SC/ST judge of Gautam Budh Nagar.
Tip-off
Mr. Tewatia was held in the morning following a tip-off that he was hiding in a house in Dankaur, the police said.
“He had been absconding for several months and had failed to appear before court in connection with criminal charges against him in one of the old Bhatta-Parsaul riots cases. Gautam Budh Nagar district court issued a non-bailable warrant against him for not appearing before court. We received a tip-off and nabbed him in the morning,” said Farmood Ali Pundir, Station House Officer, Dankaur police station.
Criminal cases
Mr. Tewatia was produced in court on Tuesday morning. There are 31 criminal cases against him, including 14 charges related to murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping.
