April 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 03:56 pm IST - BHUBANESWAR:

Even as the Narendra Modi Government re-promulgated the land acquisition Ordinance, several members of the All-India Agricultural Labourers’ Association (AIALA) on Friday demanded its withdrawal terming it anti-farmer.

The farmers and agricultural workers have gathered here to attend the two-day fifth national conference of AIALA, a mass organisation of the CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation.

The conference began at the Adivasi Exhibition Ground in the city after the delegates reached there in a huge rally. Apart from party general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, party’s former MP and AIALA president Rameshwar Prasad and leaders of the mass organisations of other Left parties such as CPI, CPI(M) and SUCI also addressed the gathering.

Almost all the speakers criticised the Narendra Modi Government for promulgating the Ordinance. Terming it anti-farmer, the speakers alleged that the Modi Government was hell bent to carry out amendments in the land acquisition Act in order to protect the interests of the corporates at the cost of the land and livelihood sources of millions of farmers. They also stressed the need for a united struggle seeking withdrawal of the land acquisition Ordinance.
