Fare hike did not benefit anyone, says Kejriwal

Responding to media reports that the metro lost over three lakh commuters a day after hiking fares in October, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the increase in fares had not benefited anyone.

“That many passengers have taken to other means of tpt [transport], thus increasing pollution n congestion on roads. Metro fare hike has not benefitted anyone [sic],” he wrote in a tweet.

Mr. Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had opposed the hike in fares that was rolled out on October 10, terming it an “anti-people” step by the DMRC and the Centre.

‘Centre, AAP to blame’

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said that both the AAP government and the Centre were responsible for the hike as the Delhi Chief Secretary was a member of the Fare Fixation Committee that recommended the rise in fares.
